The crackle of firecrackers is so thick in the air, it's like a carpet of sound. There are loud blasts, reports, and startlingly loud bursts coming from close by. It's just after midnight on New Year's Eve, and Taipei is scaring away the evil spirits and ushering in the Year of the Pig. It's amazing how loud it is.
